With only a series of guesses about their origins, the path to the truth becomes quickly littered with friends, enemies, and in the end, the Cavies ability to trust anyone at all.

Review: 4 Stars - Gypsy, is the first title in the in author Trisha Leigh’s new series called The Cavy Files. What do you get when you mix teens that grew up together under vastly different rules and circumstances from the rest of the world, teens who have special talents and teens who have formed a family within each other on the property they’ve known their whole life? You get The Cavy Files!

I wasn’t sure what to expect other than other books from this author have been awesome and that’s what I did in fact feel during and after reading. It’s a title that’s well written with characters and plot that are filled with paranormal twists and turns set in a mystery that’s a lot larger than just one title can contain.

You’ll meet a cast of ten teens that all have a variety of genetic mutations, producing all different types of charaters. Gypsy the main character has dreams of a normal life because her talent doesn’t cause harm to anyone other than her own psyche. She just knows she could fit in with everyone else in the world and when everyone finds themselves living a life outside the property they’ve known their whole life, she’s the only one excited about it.

They are somewhat naive to the world… okay a lot naive to the world and with each day that passes more and more trouble comes their way. There’s nowhere to turn except to each other and to try to find out who exactly they should trust. Who won’t use them for what they can do with their talents and who will be there in the end when everything comes crashing down around them.

There’s tons of mystery and intrigue and while this is classed as a paranormal story I’d almost say that there’s a bit of a sci-fi spin on this story too. I liked the characters’ and while they were just your normal teens, they were so much more as well, all while trying to find their way in a world they know pretty much nothing about. It’s hard when you’ve been shielded your entire life.

The other Cavies have such different personalities just as they each have such different genetic mutations that have given them crazy talents they are just starting to learn about. I enjoyed how Leigh was able to write characters such as these and I was fascinated from beginning to end!

And that ending? Okay, shocking! What the heck was THAT? I gasped and I made some random comment out loud that I won’t repeat here but yeah… it’s a cliffhanger to say the least! While there was a ton of answers that Leigh gives readers along the way there’s enough to still keep you guessing for what’s to come.

At the end of the book I was extremely excited for what’s to come. Leigh has written a great YA story with enough twists and turns and genetic mutations to keep readers of YA on the edge of their seat and happy from start to finish. I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen next to Gypsy and her cavy friends! I highly recommend this title to all fans of YA paranormal. Happy Reading!
